Saxifraga oppositifolia

Theoppositifolia's are not always  easy to grow, there are some 'rules',and if you manage to keep them, you will find out that growing Saxifraga oppositifolia is very, very worthwile.

Most people do have water features in their rockgarden,so the trick is to grow your oppositifolia's as close to the water as you can.   They benefit a lot from the evaporation, specially in summertime.

Give a more humus rich soil, but use enough grit, because altough they need to stay more moist, they must have a good drainage as well.

Most of the oppositifolia's listed are exe collected in the wild.   They have an enormous range from the pyrenees, almost all over Europe, Great Britain, Ireland, Scandinavia, Canada, Siberia, Altai, TienShan, Tibet to kashmir!,altitudes from 500-4000m.

There are easy going and good free flowering forms, but also very difficult and sparse flowering plants.   We try to give you good information almost all based on growing conditions in our own garden.

*** Please Note,....we do not hold a big Stock of oppositifolia's***

Saxifraga retusa (ssp retusa)

5,00

Pink

Very Beautiful Saxifraga, but in fact not realy an oppositifolia,it resembles it a lot at first sight. Looks like a small, tight and compact oppositifolia.  But the differance is the flower stem, the flowers are on a litlle upright stem.  Pyrenees,Alps,Mountains of Bulgaria,on altitudes up 2000m.,mostly in very sheltered position.  It's better to give slightly acid soil, retusa ssp retusa has somewhat smaller flowers and stems and is sometimes available for the same price.  ssp retusa loves acid soil.

retusa var augustana

5,00

Pink

The retusa's looking very much te same, but the differance is that the variety augustana is a lime lover!,and the flower stems are longer, augustana is a bit easier and  more vigorous.
